Terry Clay Rowland was born in Nashville, TN, and Judy was born in Oklahoma City, OK. They were both raised in the Nazarene Church by godly parents, Rev. A. C. and Marie Rowland and Vestal and Betty Nichols. They both graduated from Bethany Nazarene College, now Southern Nazarene University. They were married in December 1972. Terry started pastoring in 1974 while attending BNC. Terry and Judy have been ministering in the Church of the Nazarene for 39 years.
Dr. Rowland was asked to pastor the Crown Heights Church of the Nazarene in OKC at the age of 19. They were at Crown Heights for five years before going to pastor the Mustang Nazarene Church for seven years. Terry and Judy then answered the call to go to the New Castle, Indiana First Church of the Nazarene. They served at that assignment for 18 years before being appointed the District Superintendent of the Southeast Oklahoma District in 2004. Dr. Rowland was voted District Superintendent of the new Oklahoma District in 2010.
Terry has served the Church as District NYI President on the Southwest Oklahoma and Indianapolis Districts. He was the Sunday School Chairman on the Southwest Oklahoma District. He has been a trustee on the Olivet Region for 10 years, Nazarene Bible College for four years and is now a trustee for the SNU Region. He also currently serves on the General Board of the Church of the Nazarene. Dr. Rowland was ordained in 1976 at the Western Oaks Church of the Nazarene in Oklahoma City. In 1987 Indianapolis Christian University conferred on him the Doctor of Divinity degree.
Dr. and Mrs. Rowland have three children, all born in Oklahoma City.
Toby is the Oklahoma University “Voice of the Sooners”, as well as a KREF Sports Radio personality, “T-Row in the Morning Show”. Toby is married to the former Jennifer Smith of Chesterton, IN. They have two sons, Trevor and Payton, and a daughter, Chloe.
Skip is a territory manager for SurgiQuest. He is married to the former Christa Burch of DeSoto, TX. They have four daughters, Riley, Reid, Sutton Rose and Sloan. They also have two sons, Rex and Sawyer.
Penny Rowland Johnson is a licensed dietician and works for Davita Dialysis Center in Garden City, KS. She is married to James Lee Johnson, Jr. of Mexico City, Mexico where his parents were Nazarene missionaries. Jamie is the youth minister in the Garden City, KS First Church of the Nazarene. The Johnsons have a daughter named Maya and a son, James Lee Johnson III who they call “Trip”.
