The mission of the Church of the Nazarene that drives everything we do is to make Christlike disciples in the nations. We recognize that in order to fulfill this mission, the discipling ministries of our local churches must take place in safe and nurturing environments that strive to protect all of God's family from harm, especially those who are most vulnerable.
One component of that is criminal background screening. The Oklahoma District requires a background screening for every lead pastor, church staff member and licensed minister on the district. We use the National Screening Bureau (NATSB) to conduct these, and pastors and licensed ministers should use this link to access the form to authorize this screening:
The district will pay the cost for all lead pastors and ½ of the cost for all licensed ministers. (When authorizing the screening, licensed ministers should send a check for $7.50 to the district office.)
All staff members and volunteers working with children or teens should be screened by their local church. It is not necessary to do your screenings through National Screening Bureau under the district account. Using NATSB provides a convenient, economical, unified way of getting the screenings done and keeping the information together. If you have another company that you're screening your volunteers through, that is fine. We still need for pastor and any licensed ministers to be screened through NATSB.
It is imperative that every church utilize some system of criminal background checks for everyone working with children or youth.
